Working makes you tired ...

Phew, today was the second day of my fellowship. I've really gotten used to the student schedule where nothing starts before 11am. I'm pretty lucky in that they are not too strict as to when I show up. But I have rugby practice in the evenings. Showing up late, leaving early, I haven't asked yet but I don't think they would be too impressed. So I opt for getting there early. It also works out with traffic, I get to leave before morning rush hour. And for those that know, Southern California rush hour ... well, just hope you never get stuck in that parking lot called the 405 (freeway or 710, 55, 5, ...).
I really like the job. People are very nice. I know I'm gonna learn a lot and if all goes well, I'll even get a thesis out of it.
Right now, it is 9pm and almost bedtime. I'm too tired to watch my prime time tv shows. Needless to say there really is no update on my knitting.

Don't want to frog

This is the corset so far. I was reading another blog and she tried the corest on, turns out it didn't fit her. Posted by Picasa
So, Michelle talked me into fitting mine, oh yeah, you know it, it didn't fit me either. I really don't feel like frogging though. So I think I will make this for my cousin. I anyone ever thought I was small, well, she is just tiny.
I feel like a bad person, but now that this corset is not for me, I can't be too bothered working on it. All though I am willing to blame my lack of enthousiasm on the heat, because I can't be bothered doing much of anything. I've been trying to make myself go to the fridge for some ice cream, hasn't worked yet. And later, in about 30min, I had planned to go practice my kicking. We'll see how that works...

Trophee

A year ago, our team entered a tournament and we walked away with this lovely trophee. As silly as our team was, we actually wanted to win it. Why, I don't remember, I do know my roommate and I made the team cheer "for the mermaid" before each game. Posted by Picasa
Now, it is that time again. We have the same tourney coming up this weekend and our mermaid, Sedna, needs a new friend. Wish us luck.
(Notice how Ophie is closely garding Sedna)

In knitting news, I'm making some progress on my corset. I'll post a picture when the progress looks more impressive. I'm also knitting two scarves as presents for friends how decided to move to cold country (Boston and Chicago). I feel bad, I should be knitting on those projects, but the corset, I want to finish the corset. Probably until I get 3/4 of the way through and then I'll want to cast on for something else. Oh yes, I have plans and patterns...

Lacy day

I could not help myself yesterday. I just had to cast on. The mulit colored one will be a scarf. It is a lace pattern with chunky yarn on size 11 needles. That is to keep me sane, when the corset drives me nuts. Yes the pattern for the corset scared me a bit at first, but now that I started it, I love it. It goes pretty quick. And I had a few encouraging words from another knitter who just started the corset.Posted by Picasa

And in case you were ever wondering how to give a thank you speech for your employees, thank them for all the work they've done, how you could not have gotten the business to where it is without them, but still want to make it all about you, watch the last 10 minutes of Blow Out on Bravo. The man can out-diva and out-dramaqueen the best of them. Very entertaining. I know Michelle has been anxious to more trash tv. Her addiction is Being Bobby Brown, and I gotta admit, watching Whitney Houston and Whitney Houston's husband sing (sometime they make up songs) and dance while they: go shopping, try on sunglasses, eat, barbeque, ride the elevator... It is a very entertaining way to kill a few brain cells. Ah yes, trash on the boob tube, gotta love it.

She laughs at me

I've been both good and bad these last couple of days. I haven't cast on for anything new yet. Even though I'm itching to do so, I have found 'excuses'/reasons not to. And it has worked so far, but I don't think I will be able to hold out much longer. Maybe 2 more days before cast on. Posted by Picasa But I haven't done much knitting either. Forget finishing anything. I can't blame it on any rugby injuries this time. However, just being tired after practice counts for something.
Well, only two more weeks before I start my fellowship. My knitting time will really go down so I better get some stuff done now.

Finished a few more things

Ah yes, after a lot of time and yarn, I finished the blanket for my friend. Just a few ends to weave in, but it is pretty much done. YES! And guess who thought she was getting it... Posted by Picasa

Oreo binge

I can't help it. I went into the kitchen to make a sandwich and there it was ... on the counter ... looking at me ... I tried to avoid it, but my feet would not move, I couldn't get to the fridge. Slowly I turned around and stared back at the package of oreo cookies. It belongs to my roommate so I figured I should just leave it along. But I kept staring at it and noticed it was already opened. And then I lost control.
Luckily there are less cookies in the package then I can eat in one of my binges. My roommate is not a big sugar freak anyway. She needed to cookies to make a pie crust and I'm sure it would take her another year to finish off the leftover cookies. I don't want them to go stale so I will just eat them all now and buy her a new package later. One that is closed so they don't go stale.

Good thing I got practice later on to run off all the sugar...
And I only have only 2 rows left on the blanky.

Project bag

Lookie here. Now that Michelle has taken up sewing, she did a little practice run on this bag. Posted by Picasa
She calls it a test bag/project. I call it gorgeous and I am very happy that she let me have it. She mumbled something about the seem not being straight. I don't know, I just ignored her as I loaded up my project. This is now my official project bag. Just big enough for those projects that you need to finish while waiting at the doctor's office. Loving the color too, considering I'm Dutch, it's my country color. And it's corduroy, what's not to love.

I went to Pasadena today to talk to the people I will be working for for the next 6 months. I will most likely be put in the basement. It is just some rule that grad students get the crappy offices. But I ain't complaining, the people are really nice, and the dork that I am, I'm looking forward to staring at that computer screen looking for stars.

My Piece de Resistence

Happy happy joy joy! I finished my first sweater. Very happy, already wore it today. Not that I was cold or anything, just wanted to put it on. Posted by Picasa

Me being bad

I couldn't help it. I still need to get a better close up of the tweed, and I will one day. But the microfiber is pretty clear in this picture. I bought this pattern for a very pretty tank top and I really like these colors, so I just had to buy the yarn for it. Yes, I keep finding reasons to buy more yarn. Good thing I got an unexpected pay check. (better spend it before they ask for their money back)
And I'm very proud that I have not cast on with either of the yarns you see here. But I gotta tell ya, even looking at the picture makes me wanna grab those needles and cables ... OK, must show control. Must finish blanket and washcloth first. Posted by Picasa

Tweeeeeeeed

The new yarn came today. I am very proud of myself, I haven't cast on with it yet. I've been good and knitting on my sleeve. Look, it's getting longer.Posted by Picasa
